Carl Pei, the founder of Nothing, has confirmed the upcoming release of the Phone 2, the successor to the popular Phone 1. Initially denying its existence, Pei later announced that the Phone 2 is set to launch in 2023. The highly anticipated unveiling will take place on July 11, 2023, at 11:00 AM ET, and will be streamed live on the official Nothing website.

While specific pricing details for the Phone 2 remain undisclosed, it is expected to be priced higher than its predecessor, considering the confirmed spec upgrades. Leaked rumors suggest that the 256GB variant of the Phone 2 could cost around €729 (~$802). However, it is worth noting that Carl Pei has hinted at potential marketing tactics, casting doubt on the validity of the leaked price.

The Phone 2 is slated to be available in various countries, including the United Kingdom, Europe, India, and select Asian markets. Additionally, the Phone 2 will mark Nothing’s official entry into the United States market. While carrier partnerships are yet to be announced, the phone will be available for purchase as an unlocked device with support for US bands.

Although specific details about the display design and internal specifications are scarce, it has been confirmed that the Phone 2 will feature a centered display cutout for the selfie camera. Pei has expressed that the Phone 2 will provide a more premium user experience compared to its predecessor, hinting at significant enhancements in internal hardware. The phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC, offering superior performance, battery life, connectivity, and camera capabilities.

Rumors suggest that the Phone 2 may come equipped with at least 12GB of RAM, support for virtual RAM from 256GB of internal storage, and an adaptive AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, leaked information about a 5,000mAh battery has been corrected by Carl Pei, confirming a 4,700mAh battery instead.

Regarding the camera setup, it is expected that the Phone 2 will retain a similar configuration to the Phone 1, featuring a primary lens and an ultrawide lens on the rear, as well as a single selfie camera housed within a display cutout.

Nothing has taken full control of software development for the Phone 2, introducing Nothing OS 2.0. With a focus on speed and smoothness, the updated Android skin aims to provide an intuitive and user-friendly experience. Nothing has also committed to delivering three Android upgrades and four years of security patches, ensuring long-term software support for their devices.

While the Phone 2 may offer exclusive benefits within the Nothing ecosystem, such as seamless integration with Nothing Ear 2 earbuds, specific details regarding these features have yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for the latest updates on the Nothing Phone 2 release.
